Giardia is a type of protozoal parasite found through lakes, streams, ditches and much more outdoor water sources. The parasite is shed by wild animals high up in the actual local watershed, and as the water travels down, it becomes much more contaminated by other pups living near it. Any dog or cat drinking from a fish-pond, river, or other natural water source this tends to ingest the cysts to the persistent parasite. Once allowed to, the cysts hatch, develop, and reproduce. Giardia is causing profuse, uncontrollable, often Watery Diarrhea, sometimes with blood and mucus related to it.
The drugs most popular to treat Giardia tend to be not metronidazole, an antibiotic, so fenbendazole a dewormer. All of them are about 70% effective; that's been, they only work about 70% of the time. Because some parasites it will eventually left alive, recurrent infections are possible regardless of treatment.
However, there is a natural protocol for eliminating Giardia, that has been used how frequent successfully (and safely) in dogs and cats. We even cleared a cattery that had many infected kittens. It utilizes digestive enzymes on an empty stomach. With no food confident enough system, the digestive enzymes go to work on anything else that might be in the intestines--including impurities. It's been reported to work for Coccidia, and could also theoretically let go of Toxoplasma, Cryptosporidia, Neosporum, Tritrichomonas foetus, and similar protozoal parasites.
First, you may need a bottle of digestive nutrients (plant or fungi based) and a number of syringes; you can usually talk your vet into giving you quantity of 3 or 6 unsecured debt syringes (without needles). Don't get enzymes in combination with anything else such as probiotics along with supplements. It must be pure enzymes alone. Make sure the system you select contains at a minimum protease, amylase, and lipase (some also contain cellulase and much more enzymes). These digest meats, starch, and fat, respectively. One product I have used is called Prozyme, that'll be available at many pet stores and online.
Note that the nutrients MUST be given on an empty stomach. If you leave food out to your pet 24/7, this protocol won't work. Food must be administered in meals, at least 30 (preferably 60) minutes after each amount of enzymes. If there is any food in the animal's digestive system, the enzymes will digest the food instead, and the germs will flourish undisturbed. enzymes cannot be hidden to the pill pocket or an element of cheese--there can be no food enjoy the tummy!
Take 1 capsule of enzymes for every animal to be worked, and mix with handful of water to make a slurry. Use the syringe to achieve the slurry by mouth. In most cases it's an absolute easiest to insert the syringe in the corner of the mouth between commonly known as behind teeth and squirt. The mixture does a lot of taste that bad, but cats together with are just not gracious to consider meds. Be careful, nevertheless be firm.
Round 1: Provide a dose of digestive enzymes 1/2 to 1 hour before morning and dinner, and a dose at bedtime. Take the syringe a part and rinse clean information each dose (otherwise the residue accumulates and the plunger will often stick). Repeat daily to receive 8 days.
Rest: Smell the roses for 1 week. This enables time for resistant abnormal growths to "hatch. "
Round two: Repeat digestive enzyme strategy to 7 days.
And that's it! In my experience in 15 years as a result of veterinarian, this protocol may be a much safer and more suitable treatment than drugs.
